On 4 different occasions over a two-year period while driving my 2004 Saturn Ion on the highway -- after hitting a big bump or dip in the road -- I experience a complete shutdown of car system including loss of power, loss of steering and any ability to navigate the car. The car slows to a complete stop. From past experience I've learned that I have to stop the car complete, put the car in park, physically remove and reinsert the key to get the vehicle restarted. One time the breaks even stared to fail and I had to use my emergency break on I reached the side of the highway. On all occasions this presented an extremely dangerous situation as other cars traveling as speeds of 55-75 mph on the highway are forced to maneuver around my stalled vehicle, which does not even have the power or control to be pull off to the side of the road. The car was taken to the Saturn dealership in Oct 2007 but after diagnostic tests the problem could not be replicated. The dealership adjusted a fuse box in the under carriage, but could not assure me that it caused the problem would not happen again. The situation reoccurred last week while driving on an interstate. The severity of the situation is that it could have easily resulted in a tragic accident as I sat stranded in the middle of the highway. The car is presently at another Saturn dealership where they are again unable to identify or replicate the problem. They said there are no other known situations of file with them but I've read a couple blog site where people have have the same problem. Please email me at: saturnion04@gmail.com and let me know if this has happen to you again and how your problem was resolved. I no long feel safe in my car and really want and need to find a resolution to this problem, especially since Saturn is closing within the next year.
